The Mean Green Stingray
Gets a new 427
Come back soon to see the install of this little beast in Travis' '69 coupe.
February 17: As is, this puppy is currently at about 12.5:1 compression so to make it pump gas friendly I completely disassembled everything.  We decided that our best option was to have the pistons fly cut.

March 1: The pistons were cut down and the rotating assembly was all balanced.  The machinist thinks he got close to 10cc's out which means we may not have to open the heads up any to reach my 10.8:1 goal.

March 4: I reassembled the pistons and rods.  The rings still need to be file fit and I need to measure exactly how many cc's were taken out of the pistons.  I also bolted up the crank and Lakewood bell housing so I can measure the runout of the bell housing center hole.  I need to buy the offset pins to center the bell housing.  I also mocked up the top end to see how everything looks.  I plan to buy fabricated valve covers to replace the generic chrome Moroso covers.

April 15: I was able to get a lot of work done this weekend with some help from my dad.  I already had the rings file fitted and installed on the pistons.  We used a flex hone to do a nice cross-hatch hone on the cylinder walls and clean up the block and heads real good.  I then assembled the short block minus the oil pump.  In the pictures you can see the head installed but it's just there to keep debree and bugs from getting in the block.
