Rear-end Rebuild

This has been a slow-going project for most of 2008 and now bleeding into 2009.  It started when I had a solid roller lifter failure which was not caught in time and ruined the camshaft.  I decided to switch to a solid flat tappet cam for a little more street reliability.  It's still going to be a nasty little 427 and should have a little more low-end grunt but I doubt will peak at the same hp as the roller cam.  The roller cam dyno'd 480 hp/tq at the wheels.

As usual, the while-your-at-it disease took over and I'm also replacing my old M-21 4-speed with a TKO-600 5-speed and also swapping out the original seats for some C5 Sport Seats.  And of course since the engine is out I'm cleaning up some of the engine bay wiring, installing a line-lock, and some other goodies.
Here is what the lifter looked like that started the whole process.  Those rollers are supposed to be round, not square!

Here's a picture of me and my daughter, Melissa as she's helping with the rebuild.  At this particular moment I was degreeing the camshaft.  Gotta be one of my favorite pictures!
Once the motor was reassembled I borrowed Rob's run stand and Doug, Jim, Chris, Patrick, and my dad came over to help break-in the cam.
The 427 back in VooDoo and engine bay looking slightly better.  I removed the entire blower fan assembly and heater core and installed some sheet metal to clean up that portion of the firewall.
