TKO-600 trans

Rear-end Rebuild

Even though the TKO-600 kit from Keisler is marketed as a 'direct fit' these old C3's were essentially hand built and with anything aftermarket there's rarely anything that will be a direct bolt in for these cars.  The first part of the install which consisted of bolting up the trans to the engine (motor was already out for the rebuild) was fairly easy.  We had a slightly difficult time getting the trans to go in that last 1/2"  because the tolerances are so much finer than the original equipment.

Once it was in everything appeared to be fine until I tried to bolt up the trans cross-member.  The first problem was the top of the TKO was hitting the tunnel.  This was resolved by removing the little spacer between the poly transmission mount and the transmission.  It's just a steel plate that is normally part of the mount.
The next problem came about when I connected the drive-shaft to the trans tail shaft.  It wouldn't rotate all the way around because it was hitting the tunnel on the side.
So what I did was notch the trans mount bracket to allow it to be moved over to the driver's side.  The yoke clears now but it's VERY tight.  My first 'large' passenger will probably self clearance a little more, LOL.
